Lorsque vous visitez un th\u00e9\u00e2tre antique, on ne manquera pas de vous montrer que le bruit d\u2019une pi\u00e8ce de monnaie, l\u00e2ch\u00e9e au centre de la sc\u00e8ne, sera audible jusqu\u2019aux rangs les plus \u00e9loign\u00e9s. Les acousticiens de notre \u00e9poque s\u2019\u00e9merveillent toujours de la perfection du th\u00e9\u00e2tre antique: tous les sons, aigus ou graves, peuvent se propager \u00e0 la perfection sans distorsion et sans \u00e9cho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-blue-color\">Les effets sp\u00e9ciaux<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Spectacles de qualit\u00e9, cadre grandiose, circulation ais\u00e9e parmi les gradins, acoustique parfaite&#8230; Tout aussi extraordinaire que ce soit, cela ne suffit pas: comme aujourd\u2019hui, le spectateur voulait \u00eatre \u00e9tonn\u00e9 et, comme aujourd\u2019hui, la mise en sc\u00e8ne devait apporter une part de r\u00eave avec des effets sp\u00e9ciaux, sonores ou visuels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Et comment y parvenir sans la panoplie des \u00e9quipements de sonorisation et d\u2019\u00e9clairage qui nous semblent aujourd\u2019hui si communs?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-blue-color\">Les effets sonores<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bien s\u00fbr, la voix des acteurs, les intonations, les choeurs, contribuaient au spectacle. Mais les bruitages \u00e9taient d\u00e9j\u00e0 connus et les Grecs savaient produire le bruit de la pluie, du sabot des chevaux annon\u00e7ant l\u2019arriv\u00e9e d\u2019un nouveau personnage, ou de la foudre pr\u00e9c\u00e9dant une intervention divine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour sugg\u00e9rer le tonnerre, on utilisait le bront\u00e9ion, un baril empli de pierres qui grondaient en roulant sur des feuilles de m\u00e9tal (parfois un sac de galets que l\u2019on laissait rouler sur des t\u00f4les).<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/bronteion.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"266\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/bronteion.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1123\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Le Bront\u00e9ion imite le bruit du tonnerre.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Si les masques ne jouaient pas le r\u00f4le de porte-voix qu\u2019on leur a parfois attribu\u00e9, il semblerait que certains personnages parlaient parfois au-dessus d\u2019une grande jarre de terre cuite qui leur conf\u00e9rait une voix de basse impressionnante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-blue-color\"><strong>Les effets visuels<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les personnages eux-m\u00eames portaient des effets visuels: bien s\u00fbr les masques qui symbolisaient les personnages et leurs sentiments (au IIe si\u00e8cle, Julius Pollux identifie 76 types de masques : 44 mod\u00e8les comiques, 28 mod\u00e8les tragiques et 4 mod\u00e8les de drame satyrique). Ces masques se distinguent non seulement par leur forme, mais aussi par leur couleur (rouge pour les satyres, blanc pour les femmes, etc.). Ainsi, m\u00eame assis au dernier rang, on savait qui \u00e9tait qui.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/museeagora.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"605\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/museeagora.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1124\" srcset=\"https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/museeagora.jpg 605w, https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/museeagora-236x300.jpg 236w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 605px) 100vw, 605px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Le costume lui-m\u00eame participait \u00e0 d\u00e9finir le personnage et, selon la tradition, certains portaient des cothurnes \u00e0 haute semelle qui leur conf\u00e9raient davantage de prestance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les Romains ajout\u00e8rent au th\u00e9\u00e2tre un mur de sc\u00e8ne qui pouvait faciliter certains effets visuels. Les Grecs, pour leur part, savouraient, en arri\u00e8re-plan, une vue sur le large panorama ouvert que favorisait la conception des th\u00e9\u00e2tres, souvent taill\u00e9s \u00e0 flanc de colline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-blue-color\">Les machineries de th\u00e9\u00e2tre<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>D\u00e8s la naissance du th\u00e9\u00e2tre, une multitude d&rsquo;inventions sont venues agr\u00e9menter le spectacle, avec des r\u00e9alisations telles que l&rsquo;escalier de Charon (un passage souterrain cach\u00e9 suppos\u00e9 descendre vers le monde des morts), des trappes permettant l&rsquo;apparition et la disparition rapide de personnages ou d\u2019objets, et surtout la m\u00e8chan\u00e8 (en grec\u00a0mhcanh, \u00ab\u00a0machine\u00a0\u00bb) dont nous est parvenue l\u2019expression latine \u00ab\u00a0Deus ex machina\u00a0\u00bb (les images des maquettes ci-dessous sont issues du Mus\u00e9e des technologies des Grecs de l&rsquo;antiquit\u00e9, <a href=\"https:\/\/kotsanas.com\/en\/exhibits\/\">https:\/\/kotsanas.com\/en\/exhibits\/<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-blue-color\">L\u2019apparition divine, Deus ex machina<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Il s\u2019agissait d\u2019une sorte de grue compos\u00e9e d&rsquo;une longue poutre reposant sur un socle permettant de la relever, et mont\u00e9e sur un pivot vertical. On l\u2019utilisa d\u00e8s l\u2019\u00e9poque d\u2019Eschyle pour faire planer et d\u00e9poser sur sc\u00e8ne des personnages mythiques (des h\u00e9ros, des dieux).<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/deusexmachina.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"299\" height=\"213\" src=\"https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/deusexmachina.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1125\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Plus rarement apparaissaient ainsi des charges plus lourdes comme des chars ou des chevaux avec leur cavalier, une plateforme portant le choeur, etc. Euripide l&rsquo;utilise fr\u00e9quemment, ainsi qu\u2019Aristophane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-blue-color\">Les p\u00e9riactes<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ces structures tournantes en forme de prisme vertical comportaient trois faces dont chacune portait un panneau de d\u00e9cor. Une simple rotation du p\u00e9riacte, changeant la face orient\u00e9e vers le spectateur, r\u00e9alisait un changement de d\u00e9cor presque instantan\u00e9!<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/periacte.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"487\" height=\"483\" src=\"https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/periacte.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1126\" style=\"width:184px;height:182px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/periacte.jpg 487w, https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/periacte-300x298.jpg 300w, https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/periacte-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 487px) 100vw, 487px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Julius Pollux \u00e9voque un type de p\u00e9riacte appel\u00e9e keraunoscopeion, destin\u00e9 \u00e0 figurer l\u2019orage et les \u00e9clairs: ses faces, peintes en noir, portaient des \u00e9l\u00e9ments m\u00e9talliques. Mis en rotation rapide, ils refl\u00e9taient le soleil et simulaient ainsi la foudre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-blue-color\">Eccycl\u00e8me et exostre<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ces deux m\u00e9canismes sont souvent confondus par les auteurs antiques.<br>L\u2019ekkykl\u00eama ou eccycl\u00e8me utilis\u00e9 dans la Gr\u00e8ce antique \u00e0 partir du Ve si\u00e8cle av. J.-C. est un \u00e9l\u00e9ment pratique et d\u00e9coratif du th\u00e9\u00e2tre.<br><br>Il s\u00b4agit d\u00b4une plateforme roulante qui apportait ou emportait des objets sur la sc\u00e8ne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019exostre \u00e9tait un plateau tournant en forme de demi-cercle permettant l\u2019apparition et le changement rapide d\u2019un d\u00e9cor int\u00e9rieur. Un pr\u00e9curseur des sc\u00e8nes tournantes modernes qui en ont conserv\u00e9 le principe.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/exostre.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"592\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/exostre.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1127\" style=\"width:194px;height:128px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/exostre.jpg 592w, https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/exostre-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 592px) 100vw, 592px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>A Rome, un syst\u00e8me de trappes, les \u00ab\u00a0Scalae Orcinae\u00a0\u00bb, faisait appara\u00eetre et dispara\u00eetre des fant\u00f4mes terrifiants&#8230; Mais les Romains poussaient le r\u00e9alisme jusqu\u2019au bout et les organisateurs de spectacles ne reculaient devant rien, n\u2019h\u00e9sitant pas \u00e0 reconstituer des combats navals, les Naumachies, \u00e0 l\u2019aide de vrais navires voguant r\u00e9ellement sur un bassin, dans le Colis\u00e9e lui-m\u00eame.<br><br>Et si les trag\u00e9dies grecques \u00e9voquaient souvent la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 des sacrifices &#8211; parfois humains comme pour Iphig\u00e9nie ou Polyx\u00e8ne &#8211; les Romains, toujours pragmatiques, auraient estim\u00e9 (vrai ou non?) que, pour \u00eatre r\u00e9aliste, rien ne valait le sacrifice r\u00e9el d\u2019un prisonnier ou d\u2019un condamn\u00e9. Mais l\u00e0, on sort des effets sp\u00e9ciaux&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-blue-color\">Et la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision alors, pendant que nous y sommes?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Je plaisante?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A moiti\u00e9 seulement, car les inventeurs de l\u2019Antiquit\u00e9 grecque, et tout particuli\u00e8rement H\u00e9ron d\u2019Alexandrie, adoraient \u00e9tonner leurs contemporains par des automates follement ing\u00e9nieux dont certains pr\u00e9sentaient de vrais spectacles en miniature, comme \u00ab\u00a0le mythe de Nauplius\u00a0\u00bb&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/heron2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"271\" height=\"265\" src=\"https:\/\/anticopedie.fr\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/heron2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1128\" style=\"width:153px;height:150px\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Mais ceci est une autre histoire, et nous y reviendrons peut-\u00eatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Comme aujourd\u2019hui, le spectateur antique voulait \u00eatre \u00e9tonn\u00e9.
