Tout simplement parce que les constructeurs des premiers mat&eacute;riels ferroviaires produisaient des chariots et des v&eacute;hicules routiers hippomobiles, et que pour se simplifier le travail, ils utilis&egrave;rent les outils dont ils disposaient d&eacute;j&agrave;. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<font face=\"arial\" size=\"2\">Mais pourquoi cet &eacute;cartement des roues fut-il ainsi scrupuleusement respect&eacute; et conserv&eacute; au cours des &acirc;ges?&nbsp; C&#39;est que les routes d&#39;Europe &eacute;taient, jusqu&#39;&agrave; l&#39;invention de John Loudon Mac Adam (LE macadam), plut&ocirc;t boueuses et instables, et les v&eacute;hicules y tra&ccedil;aient de profondes orni&egrave;res, qui guidaient les v&eacute;hicules assez pr&eacute;cis&eacute;ment, et dont il valait mieux ne pas s&#39;&eacute;carter sous peine de rompre les essieux. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<font face=\"arial\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.anticopedie.fr\/wpimages\/chevaux.gif\" style=\"margin: 3px 7px; width: 150px; height: 147px; float: right;\" \/> Et ceci depuis le superbe r&eacute;seau des voies cr&eacute;&eacute;es sous l&#39;Empire Romain, qui sillonnaient toute l&#39;Europe jusqu&#39;en&nbsp; Angleterre. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<font face=\"arial\" size=\"2\">Or, l&#39;&eacute;cartement des roues de v&eacute;hicules tract&eacute;s par des chevaux ne doit rien au hasard: il ne doit pas &ecirc;tre trop grand, pour que le v&eacute;hicule puisse circuler partout, mais la largeur minimale est celle de l&#39;attelage des deux chevaux qui tirent le v&eacute;hicule. Celle que choisirent les Romains. Ainsi donc, c&#39;est la largeur de la croupe du cheval romain qui&nbsp; est &agrave; l&#39;origine de l&#39;&eacute;cartement des voies des chemins de fer am&eacute;ricains. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<font face=\"arial\" size=\"2\">Quel rapport avec la conqu&ecirc;te spatiale, me direz-vous? C&#39;est que la fus&eacute;e qui lan&ccedil;ait la navette spatiale, comme la c&eacute;l&egrave;bre&nbsp; Saturne V qui amena l&#39;homme sur la Lune, &eacute;tait munie de &quot;boosters&quot;, ces fus&eacute;es d&#39;appoint qui fournissent l&#39;acc&eacute;l&eacute;ration n&eacute;cessaire au d&eacute;collage, et se d&eacute;tachent ensuite du corps de la fus&eacute;e proprement dit. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<font face=\"arial\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.anticopedie.fr\/wpimages\/srbtrain.gif\" style=\"margin: 3px 6px; width: 200px; height: 85px; float: left;\" \/> Les SRB qui lancent la navette spatiale (solid rocket boosters, ou boosters &agrave; carburant solide), &eacute;taient produits chez Thiokol, dans son usine de l&#39;Utah. Ses ing&eacute;nieurs auraient aim&eacute; les faire un peu plus gros, mais on choisit de les envoyer par voie ferr&eacute;e jusqu&#39;au pas de tir de Cap Kennedy. Il fallait donc qu&#39;ils passent dans les tunnels et respectent le gabarit standard des voies. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<font face=\"arial\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.anticopedie.fr\/wpimages\/char.gif\" style=\"margin: 3px 6px; width: 150px; height: 98px; float: right;\" \/> Et ainsi donc, la conqu&ecirc;te spatiale, cette initiative glorieuse du XX&egrave;me si&egrave;cle, h&eacute;rite de la largeur de la croupe du cheval.<br \/>\n\tUn petit pas pour l&#39;Homme, un grand pas pour le cheval romain. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 205);\"><strong><font face=\"arial\">Tout change et rien ne change&#8230; <\/font><\/strong><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<font face=\"arial\" size=\"2\">L&#39;histoire ci-dessus vous semble tir&eacute;e par les&#8230; chevaux?<br \/>\n\tElle circule depuis longtemps (nous esp&eacute;rons que vous la d&eacute;couvrirez &#8211; ou red&eacute;couvrirez &#8211; avec plaisir) et si elle a ses d&eacute;tracteurs, ils n&#39;ont pu la r&eacute;cuser compl&egrave;tement et elle reste absolument cr&eacute;dible.<br \/>\n\tElle montre en tous cas parfaitement &agrave; quel point la permanence des choses au fil des si&egrave;cles nous s&eacute;duit, et nous devons en prendre conscience m&ecirc;me dans la vie courante. Par exemple, vous &ecirc;tes-vous d&eacute;j&agrave; demand&eacute; pourquoi vous montez toujours dans un avion par le c&ocirc;t&eacute; gauche de l&#39;appareil? Parce que c&#39;est une convention d&eacute;cid&eacute;e par l&#39;OACI (Organisation de l&#39;aviation civile internationale)? Oui, mais pourquoi? Parce que les bagages et autres chargements se font par la droite? Alors, pourquoi la droite? Autant dire que le z&egrave;bre s&#39;appelle z&egrave;bre parce qu&#39;il&#8230; court comme un z&egrave;bre. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<font face=\"arial\" size=\"2\">Le fait est que les premiers avions produits en s&eacute;rie &eacute;taient pilot&eacute;s par des officiers, donc forc&eacute;ment adeptes de l&#39;&eacute;quitation &#8211; et tr&egrave;s souvent m&ecirc;me issus de la cavalerie. Ils montaient dans leur appareil comme on monte &agrave; cheval: par la gauche. Et m&ecirc;me si quelques avions ont eu leur porte &agrave; droite dans l&#39;Histoire, ils restent l&#39;exception. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<font face=\"arial\" size=\"2\">Or, si l&#39;on monte &agrave; cheval par la gauche &#8211; et depuis le temps des Romains, voire bien avant &#8211; ce n&#39;est pas l&#39;effet d&#39;une convention de l&#39;OACI: c&#39;est parce que les &quot;gens d&#39;armes&quot; portaient leur &eacute;p&eacute;e &agrave; gauche pour pouvoir la d&eacute;gainer plus vite de la main droite. Ep&eacute;e qui aurait entrav&eacute; le mouvement d&#39;une mani&egrave;re fort g&ecirc;nante, si l&#39;on montait &agrave; cheval par la droite. Pensez-y la prochaine fois que vous prendrez l&#39;avion &#8211; d&#39;autant qu&#39;&agrave; d&eacute;faut d&#39;&eacute;p&eacute;e, vous n&#39;avez m&ecirc;me plus le droit d&#39;embarquer un canif. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<font face=\"arial\" size=\"2\">C&#39;est pour la m&ecirc;me raison que l&#39;on circulait &agrave; gauche dans les &eacute;troits couloirs des ch&acirc;teaux forts: pour que les poign&eacute;es des &eacute;p&eacute;es ne s&#39;emm&ecirc;lent pas lorsque les gens se croisaient. Alors, pourquoi roule-t-on &agrave; droite sur les routes fran&ccedil;aises? <\/font>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<font face=\"arial\" size=\"2\">A cause de l&#39;esprit de contradiction de Napol&eacute;on.
