ATTIC: ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES

Pass the mouse over the red dots on this map for some more information, in particular the geographical coordinates.

Nota Bene: see also our "satellite view" map or Greek archaeological sites and museums.
Attic is obviously first Athens and its numerous sites, those which all the tourists visit, and also others less known.
Everyone visits the Acropolis, the Agora and the Tower of the Winds, but much less the Kerameikos, the temple of Olympian Zeus, the Pnyx and all the small sites that may be discovered just walking through the streets. In the same way, the National Archaeological museum is much more famous than the Museum of Cyclac art, the Benaki museum, etc. The new Acropolis Museum opened in 2009.
Most travellers cross the Piraeus harbour without visiting its superb archaeological museum. At Cape Sounion, the temple of Poseidon also is very attended, especially by sunset.
But other sites deserve a visit: Eleusis, Brauron (museum temporarily closed for restoration), Marathon, Ramnous, Oropos
